Statement on the Occasion of 24 January – International Day of the Endangered Lawyer
Every year on 24 January, the international community marks the International Day of the Endangered Lawyer, recognizing the indispensable role of defense lawyers in upholding justice, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights. It is a day to honor lawyers worldwide who, despite threats, pressure, and grave personal risk, continue to defend the rights and dignity of others. For Afghan defense lawyers, however, this day is observed amid one of the darkest chapters in the history of the legal profession.
